Playing At The Beach

Yesterday we drove northwest to Kalaloch (pronounced clay lock ) to play on the beach.  I have a few memories of  walking on the Atlantic coast when I was a kid and we visited relatives in Connecticut but for most of my life, my ocean has been the Pacific.  Although I've lived by bays and inlets most of my life, the thrill of standing on the edge of the continent and seeing the open ocean still makes my heart race. (Or was that the extra coffee?)  There's a whole lot of water out there!

Oh look, plants!  There was  a nursery beside the highway on the way up that was having a sale so the plant mobile stopped in the parking lot and left with a few items.

The flat circular rocks intrigue me and a few may have made their way into my pocket as we walked along.

Turns out that when you fill all of your pockets with stones, your pants don't like to stay up.

We walked down to several beaches.  Some had a few people walking around and on others we were almost alone.  Tom brought kites which we had great fun flying.  (Easier after pockets are emptied of rocks.)

Life is such a fleeting thing.

A moment in time, a puff of smoke, a dim memory.

Kalaloch Lodge is a favorite place to stop because of this view.  There are rooms in the lodge itself and also individual cabins where pets are welcome.  We've stayed in a cabin before and enjoyed it thoroughly.  This visit, we stopped long enough to have dinner (delicious) at the lodge.

The weathered wood of the lodge contrasts beautifully with the vibrant colors of nasturtiums.
We didn't get home until relatively late so you get a bit of the beach today.  Back to gardens tomorrow!
